WINTER SEMINAR

February 1, 2017

For the second year in a row, KPMA partnered with the Petroleum and Convenience Marketers of Alabama (PCMA) for a combined Winter Seminar in late February. Twenty-eight KPMA members and 42 PCMA members journeyed to St. Maarten to enjoy networking, a legislative update and several shared events, including a sunset catamaran cruise. KPMA member companies represented were Valor Oil, Rocket Oil, Max Arnold & Sons, Shield Environmental, Johnson Legal Network, Modern Welding and Petro Towery. Modern Welding's John Austin also brought along his harmonica. He and another resort guest delighted attendees with an impromptu blues harp duet following an evening activity.

LEGISLATIVE BREAKFAST

March 2, 2017

The Capitol Annex Cafeteria in Frankfort was buzzing on March 2 as the KPMA hosted dozens of state legislators, officials and LRC staff for the annual KPMA Legislative Breakfast. KPMA members networked and met one-on-one with 39 Representatives and Senators, including House and Senate leadership, about the importance of maintaining the 2.25% Collection & Evaporation Allowance for our industry. Legislators in attendance also received a complimentary copy of KPMA's 90th Anniversary book that was published in 2016.
Member companies represented at the breakfast were: Cumberland Lake Shell, Hardy Oil Company, Harper Oil Products, Hinkle-Meyer Environmental Services, J & M Monitoring, Marathon Petroleum Company, Red Hed Oil Company, Riley Oil Company, Rocket Oil Company, and Valor Oil. 

M-PACT

April 18-20, 2017

The KPMA Board of Directors met on April 18 at M-PACT and honored 2016/17 Chairman Tom Eveland (Rocket Oil) for his leadership and service to KPMA. 
In addition to hearing a number of presentations and reports, the Board also elected new officers and directors for 2017/2018:

Vice Chairman - Michael Smith (Midwest Terminal)Treasurer - Scott Kiser (Woodford Oil)PMAA Director - Gary Logan (Max Arnold & Sons)Immediate Past Chair - Tom Eveland (Rocket Oil) Chaz Herd (Southern Petroleum) was elected to a one-year term as a Director-At-Large. 
All other current Board of Directors terms were confirmed or renewed as well.

FALL OUTING & GOLF TOURNAMENT

September 21-22, 2017

KPMA Members enjoyed the first part of the annual Fall Outing in Bowling Green, Kentucky on September 21 and 22. On Thursday morning, the 21st, Modern Welding of Owensboro played host to members and gave a tour of their facility in honor celebration of their 85th anniversary. The afternoon continued back in Bowling Green for the annual KPMA board meeting and luncheon. That evening, KPMA members and guests were invited to a private tour and reception at the National Corvette Museum. 
The fun continued on Friday morning at the Bowling Green Country Club, where attendees enjoyed some friendly competition, great food, and fantastic prizes. The team that won first place team at the KPMA Golf Classic was: Tom Eveland (Rocket Oil Company), Gary Emmick (Valor Oil), Haley Miller (Marathon), and Mark Flagg (Marathon). Second place was awarded to Gary Houghtaling (Gulf Oil), Jim Holton (Team Modern), Tim Durpin (Harper Oil), and Bo Bishop (Team Modern).

SPORTING CLAYS TOURNAMENT

September 29, 2017

On Friday, September 29, KPMA members attended participated in the Sporting Clays Classic at Elk Creek Hunt Club in Owenton, KY, followed by lunch and wine tasting at Elk Creek Vineyard. 
The winners of the KPMA Sporting Clays Classic were Mike Vanover, Gregg Vanover, Addam Vanover, and Jerry Reinhard of Clean Fuels National.

DAY AT THE RACES

October 11, 2017

KPMA members enjoyed the annual Day at the Races at Keeneland race track on October 11. In its fourth year, Day at the Races was once again a sold out event with almost 50 members in attendance. 
It was a beautiful day for networking, southern cuisine and ponies!

TANK & TECHNICAL CONFERENCE

November 2, 2017

In its fourth year, the KPMA Tank & Technical Conference was held in Lexington, KY on November 2 with a record number of attendees. More than 150 petroleum marketers, consultants, suppliers, fuel retailers and tank owners and operators from across the Commonwealth gathered to hear industry experts and state regulators present on a variety of topics.


 Morning session speakers included John Austin of presenting sponsor Modern Welding who presented "Tanks 101" and Ed Kubinsky of CROMPCO who spoke on test spill containment, overfill equipment, and sump water disposal. The luncheon keynote, sponsored by Marathon Petroleum, was delivered by Carolyn Hoskinson, Executive Director of the EPA's national Office of Underground Storage Tanks (OUST). Hoskinson addressed new Federal tank regulations and implementation.


In the afternoon attendees heard from John Olko of the New Jersey DEP who spoke about leak detection methods. The conference closed out with its signature Q&A panel discussion with state regulators, including Kris Fink of Kentucky's Underground Storage Tank Branch and Deputy State Fire Marshal Mike Burke.


Tom Fassas moderated the Q&A panel with state regulators from KY's UST Branch and the State Fire Marshal office.
